The Mathematica Information Technology Services team is focused on building a cloud data platform to support research projects at Mathematica. This team is creating a high-performing and scalable platform to store, manage and use data to support several use cases in research project lifecycle. You will help us drive our objective of delivering business value through delivery of this foundational infrastructure. Through it, researchers can collaborate to explore, process, analyze and distribute data.

Mathematica seeks an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Senior Solutions Architect with expertise in the strategy, design, development and implementation of large-scale technology projects in the cloud. They will lead our rapidly growing work in building and deploying cloud applications and serve as a principal architect in our Information Technology Services team.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance AWS Control Tower and Security Hub services
  • Assist with Control Tower guardrails and service control policies
  • Assist in the implementation of an elastic, secure and highly resilient cloud foundational platform
  • Assist with on-premises applications migrations to Mathematica's AWS cloud platform
  • Automate manually processes for Account Creation, Tagging, Security and Compliance monitoring and reporting
  • Ability to manage, maintain and update existing AMIs and build new AMIs as necessary
  • Provide innovative thought leadership around Mathematica's cloud solutions strategy and approach, including AWS best practices and market trends
  • Participate in technology solution business development activities, including contributing to proposal development
  • Develop and lead technical efforts to design, build, and deploy AWS applications, including large scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modeling, and advanced analytics
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle for AWS solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance
  • Provide guidance, thought leadership and mentorship to development teams to build cloud competencies
  • Work with Development and Operations teams on our DevOps Initiative automating current processes between teams utilizing a centralized CI/CD pipeline using AWS CodePipeline
  • Create and Manage deployment configurations for applications in AWS cloud
  • Configuration and deployment of containerized environments
  • Configuration and management of application performance monitoring tools and assist project teams to setup test environments.
  • Clearly define and assist in the adoption of the Shared Security model for operating in the Cloud
  • Help the organization to implement the security services from the cloud providers to meet the security and regulatory requirements
  • Audit the application architecture for enterprise security and compliance issues

Position Requirements:

  • 7+ years' experience architecting, designing, developing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS platform and tools, such as: Amazon Linux, EC2, S3, Redshift, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, RDS, VPC, IAM and security, ECS, EKS, ECR, APM tools, QuickSight, CloudTrail, Config, CloudWatch, SNS, AMI generation, Cost Optimization, Control Tower, Security Hub, Workspaces and System Manager
  • Understanding of and experience with the four pillars of a well-architected framework
  • Knowledge of SQL, R, and Python for data manipulation and statistical analysis are desirable
  • Familiarity with federal security regulations and standards (eg HIPAA, FISMA, FIPS, NIST, and FedRAMP) is a plus
  • Experience in several of the following areas: database architecture, ETL, Business Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, and subject matter experts
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • AWS Certification (such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect)
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; degree in computer science, mathematics, or related field preferred
  • As a federal government contractor, all staff working in our central ITS group with access to corporate computer systems are required to successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of employment.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $127,500 - $165,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance. To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, location preference, and salary expectations.
