The Medical Assistant performs a combination of administrative and clinical tasks within the practice healthcare setting. The position is an essential part of the care team as the role and the responsibilities help keep the practice and medical providers organized and operating efficiently. The Medical Assistant assures the approved protocols and workflows create a positive patient experience. The Medical Assistant typically works 40 hours each week usually as part of the care team, or separately performing administrative duties as a part of their role.

  • Creates a positive, professional, service-oriented environment for staff, patients, family members reflecting the values of the practice.
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of both the clinical and administrative support teams.
  • Accountable for following guidelines for attendance, punctuality and overall dependability.
  • Adheres to standards of providing a high level of service and respect to both internal and external “customers”.
  • Maintains knowledge and complies with standards, policies and procedures of the practice.
  • Assures administrative roles and duties are completed in a timely manner including:
    • Welcoming patients and managing calls, text messages to and from patients as needed
    • Assisting in scheduling “next” appointments
    • Documenting patient medical information
    • Handling, coordinating patient records transfers.
  • Assures clinical duties are completed in a timely manner depending consistent with medical provider needs, direction and patient needs.
  • Maintains on-going professional development.
  • Follows all practice and related standards, policies, procedures, and or government guidelines including HIPAA and privacy laws.
  • Works well as part of a team and is supportive of the team and its members.

QUALIFICATONS

  • High School Diploma with preference for Certified Medical Assistant credential
  • 1-2 years of experience in a physician office or clinical environment
  • Proficiency in administrative tasks
  • Basic understanding of clinical tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure
  • Good time management
  • Strong computer skills
  • EMR experience preferred – Greenway/Intergy practice system

  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
