DESCRIPTION

The Department of Neurosciences is a large department within the UCSD School of Medicine. The Department's mission is to create the synergies and define the ideas and programs that will allow us to transform the way our neurosciences community discovers, teaches and cares. We strive to conduct cutting-edge science and research and train the next generation of neurologists and researchers by fostering education at all levels and integrating the latest scientific and medical advances into the curriculum.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops policies or procedures for implementation.

The Academic Affairs/HR Liaison will serve as an interdepartmental liaison and subject matter expert (SME) for high-level academic and staff human resources and operational support to Neurosciences faculty and staff, the Department Business Officer, the Finance Operations Director, and the Chair of the Department of Neurosciences. They will work directly with the Academic Resource Center (ARC) on processes such as faculty recruitments and relocations as well as other academic recruitments; clinical teaching appointments, Postdoctoral Scholar, Visiting Scholar, and Visiting Graduate Student appointments. In addition to academic recruitments, they will assist ARC in the processes of Return to Active Duty (RTAD) appointments as well as work with the International Faculty and Scholars Office to initiate and monitor Visa submissions for academic and staff appointments.

As part of the Primary ARC Liaison (PAL) team, the Academic Affairs/HR Liaison will support and assist faculty in submitting yearly Outside Activities Reporting in accordance with current Conflict of Commitment policies and provide resources on APM 025 and APM 671. The position will also be responsible in initiating UCSD Credentialing and Billing Privileges for clinical physicians by working directly with both the UCSD Medical Staff Administration Office and the Provider Enrollment Office. The position also works with the Risk Management Office to obtain and issue Certificates of Liability Insurance for physicians performing clinical work at locations outside of UCSD. The Academic Affairs/HR Liaison also assists ARC's Academic Personnel team with yearly academic reviews for faculty; this includes coordinating and meeting with ad hoc committees, coordinating an in person and online Neurosciences Academic Review Meeting, and facilitating in completing documentation needed to finalize the reviews.

The Academic Affairs/HR Liaison uses knowledge of time reporting via UCSD's Eco Time application to assist faculty and staff in completing timecards as well as making adjustments and escalating and discrepancy matters to the Compensation and Timekeeping team for both academic and staff appointments.

This position will be responsible for acting as a resource in helping to resolve complex payroll discrepancies, and escalate customer service problems and vendor concerns. The Academic Affairs/HR Liaison will identify problematic areas and irregular expenditures, and make recommendations about potential policy or process changes to the Chair, Department Business Officer, Finance Operations Director and PIs.
