The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Resident Counselor to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds.

Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Resident Counselor
PROGRAM: Able Halfway House

DUTIES:
  • Provide substance abuse counseling services to patients/families, including psychosocial assessment and treatment, short and long term, crisis, intervention, individual and group counseling.
  • Carry an active caseload of patients and complete all intake forms.
  • Conduct intake assessment, develop treatment plan/review and progress notes.
  • Participate in weekly staff meeting/case conference, in-house/external training and monthly supervision with Director
  • Educate patients on Substance use/abuse, MAT and NRT.
  • Manage written an electronic patients records, knowledge on STARS and HRA2010E
  • Participate in agency sponsored and community outreach events such as health fairs and ground rounds.
  • Ability to travel off-site to conduct outreach and attend necessary training and conferences
  • Provide necessary reports, case records, documentation and statistics as required.
  • Working knowledge of referral process for individual aftercare, and other concrete services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Conduct weekly random urines and monitor medication.


REPORTS TO: Program Director

UNION: Local 1199 SEUI

HOURS: 35/week

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree and/or CASAC/CASAC-T require.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services field.
  • Counseling experience required.
  • CASAC-T with 2 years' experience working with a population with substance abuse/co-occurring disorders.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Computer Skills is a requirement.
