The Senior Student Accounting Specialist is a key member of the Student Accounting Services team and works closely with students from Boston University, as well as with staff from Enrollment Services, Undergraduate and Graduate Financial Aid Offices, Loans and Collections, and other areas.
Major duties of this position include:
- Manages the efficient daily operation of Student Accounting Services
- Assists customers with billing inquiries, which includes advising and educating customers (students, parents, other student services staff, the University community, agencies, corporations, and government representatives) regarding student financial records, University payment policies, and payment options
- Participates in training and supervision of Student Accounts Specialists
- Writes and updates department procedures
- Assists in oversight of walk-in services area, daily teller, and location balancing
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in a university or customer service environment
- Intermediate skills utilizing Excel, including complex formulas in order to acquire, organize, and analyze data
- Experience in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output
- Ability to work (both independently and in conjunction with others) effectively and cooperatively in a small, collegial team environment
- Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with analyzing detailed financial records
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures and federal regulations to advise customers and resolve inquiries
