Summary Of Position

The Sr Specialist, Safety is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of safety for the Distribution Center location primarily, and provide support to other FORMA work sites and team-members as needed and facilitating a culture of safety for all team-members.

Principle Accountabilities

Regulatory Compliance (20%)
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal safety-related regulations applicable to the FORMA DC, partnering with others as needed to identify gaps and implement changes to policy, procedure or training as relevant. Monitors regulatory changes as they occur and creates required action, effectively communicating out changes as needed
  • Manages all FORMA OSHA logs, documents and required reporting, ensuring local, state and federal compliance
  • Ensures hazmat compliance for DC operations
  • Identifies opportunities to create and update safety policies and procedures in partnership with DC leadership
  • Works closely with DC leadership on any regulatory inspections
  • Supports Retail business in maintenance of Safety Binder, updating safety policies as needed and act in an advisory capacity to Retail and Corporate partners as needed
Incident Management (25%)
  • Acts as main point of contact for any safety incident reporting within DC, working closely with leaders and team members to assess, treat, record, notify external vendors Concentra and Hartford, and save all related documents in an organized fashion, ensuring appropriate flow of communication (written and verbal) to all parties involved, internal and external.
  • Oversees Workers Compensation claims for both the DC and Retail populations, ensuring accurate records are made and saved, tracks Workers Compensation claims from beginning to end, partnering closely with Manager, People on the process
  • Conducts thorough injury and non-injury incident investigations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, identifying causes of incidents, making recommendations based on contributing factors, and driving action based on approved recommendations. Documents and saves all investigations appropriately in an organized manner.
Training (25%)
  • Participates in onboarding of new hires and temporary associates in the Distribution Center to ensure knowledge of FORMA Safety policies and procedures
  • Conducts trainings for DC population on eye-wash station, fire-extinguisher usage, reporting first-aid, and other training as necessary
Prevention (30%)
  • Partners with the Manager, Facilities to plan and communicate DC weekly safety reminders, creating a regular rotation of important and recurring reminders and updating the weekly planned communication with time-sensitive updates as needed
  • Regularly conduct DC walk-throughs, in partnership with Facilities, to assess and report any safety-related concerns to leadership
  • Participate in creation and ongoing updating of a Safety Manual EAP (Emergency Action Plan)
  • Conducts regular inspections of first-aid kits (weekly), eye-wash station (monthly), fire-extinguisher (quarterly) and takes action as appropriate
Supports implementation of the 5S project, which helps make problems more visible, resulting in a safer warehouse

Required Skills & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years related experience working in a Safety capacity
  • Possess a valid driver s license
  • Skill in attitude of continuous improvement
  • Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate; must exhibit strong written and oral communication skills
Travel Requirements
  • 5% to local sites
Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform essential functions (with or without an accommodation) without posing a "direct threat" to the health and safety to self or others.
