SUMMARY

The Security Engineer assists the CNI IT Department with the digital security including building digital security protocols, maintaining an IT security infrastructure and managing computer systems and networks security. Design new system architecture, identifying security threats and vulnerabilities in systems and software, then apply their skills to defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats and all types of cybercrime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge/quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative/motivation, cooperation/relationships, problem analysis/discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral/written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability/dependability, flexibility and ownership/accountability of actions taken.

Develops, executes and tracks the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems.

Designs computer security strategy and engineers comprehensive cybersecurity architecture.

Identifies, defines and documents system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.

Configures, troubleshoots and maintains security infrastructure software and hardware.

Installs software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.

Assists with planning, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive enterprise-wide security program that protects CNI’s information systems.

Monitors networks and computer systems for security breaches, through use of software that detects intrusions, anomalous system behavior, and unauthorized network-attached devices.

Plans and participates in cyber security improvement projects for the purpose of maintaining a mature security program for CNI.

Effectively responds to reported security incidents and other reports of suspicious activity.

Evaluates and recommends procedures and innovative techniques and methods.

Presents briefings and develops technical reports to document incident remediation progress and results.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six (6) years’ of security engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Experience performing complex technical implementations with cyber security responsibilities.

Knowledge of information security best practices (NIST 800-171, CMMC, SOC 2).

Knowledge of scripting languages (Powershell, bash).

Demonstrated Knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory administration.

General Cisco switch knowledge including WAN concepts.

General Virtualization experience including VMware, VCenter and Horizon View.

Linux administration experience – Red Hat and/or Ubuntu preferred.

Experience with Azure or AWS (GCC / Govcloud) based solutions.

Demonstrated competencies in cyber security technologies (Forcepoint, SentinelOne, CASB).

Experience performing incident remediation for cyber security incidents.

Experience establishing and planning information security policies.

Strong knowledge in MS office to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software suites.

Excellent communication skills.

Solid organizational skills relevant to carrying out day-to-day responsibilities.

Skilled in planning and setting up room requirements for events and meetings.

Proficient in verbal, written and listening skills.

Exceptional customer service skills.

Detail-oriented with ability to effectively multi-task.

Ability to learn and apply new knowledge in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
