FULL_TIME

Echodyne is seeking a Senior Engineer with experience in materials, processes, and manufacturing related to printed circuit boards and assemblies to join our team working in a fast-paced environment developing high-performance commercial radar solutions.

Echodyne offers the world’s first compact solid-state true beam-steering radar for a wide range of industries and applications. Our high-performance radars work in all weather and are designed for autonomous vehicles, unmanned aircraft & drones, and security of borders, critical infrastructure, and smart cities. The company combines the patented technology of metamaterials with powerful software to create a radar sensor with unprecedented performance at commercial price points. Echodyne offers its radars to companies working in Automotive, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, Smart Cities, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), and Airspace Management including Urban Air Mobility (UTM).

At the foundation of every radar design is a Printed Circuit Board design that is both high-performance and manufacturable. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in our ability to bring new designs to market and sustain those already released to production. In each of the lifecycle phases you will both contribute to and learn from solving challenging problems in the realm of meeting the most cutting-edge performance requirements while maintaining producibility in circuit board design.

In this role you will draw upon your deep background in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) materials and processes to aid in the development and sustainment of our ground-breaking products.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Electrical and Antenna design teams to understand the scope of requirements and key features of printed circuit boards and assemblies while collaborating on and honing the designs to match with PCB and PCBA vendor capabilities

  • Build and maintain circuit board material vendor relationships and champion the selection of material sets and stackups for new PCB designs based on a comprehensive understanding of RF and high-speed circuit materials

  • Identify candidate PCB vendors to handle fabrication of RF, rigid-flex, or high-speed digital designs ranging from one-off prototypes through production volume

  • Proactively engage with PCBA vendors to understand existing process capabilities and aid in the refinement of Echodyne designs to use highly producible processes

Required skills / experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of RF and high-speed material sets including fabrication pros & cons for each

  • In-depth understanding of RF PCB manufacturing processes, including tolerances, assembly methods, and DFM/DFA oriented design methodologies

  • Ability to develop complex multi-lam, multi-layer RF and mixed-signal PCB stackups (including multiple drill types) that support volume processing

  • Established relationships with relevant industry parties including Material suppliers, PCB vendors, and Electronics Manufacturing vendors

  • Experience with Valor (or equivalent) ECAD tools for evaluation of PCB and PCBA designs and their adherence to vendor design rules

Desired skills / experience:

  • Drafting experience in Altium (or equivalent) for preparing fab-drawings

  • Experience with PCBA designs that utilize mechanical components to provide electrical functionality such as electromagnetic shielding or RF waveguide transitions

  • Prior experience as an electronics manufacturing manager, electronics production lead or product manufacturing engineer

  • In-depth understanding of RF PCBA manufacturing processes

  • Understanding of metal clad or metal core PCB construction techniques & processes

  • Experience with PTFE and mixed material PCB stacks, fabrication and process trade-offs

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or Physics

  • 8 or more years’ experience in design and manufacture of circuit boards for RF applications

Echodyne’s technology is export controlled by the U.S. Government and we must evaluate an applicant’s eligibility to handle export-controlled information or obtain required Government authorizations.  Therefore, we will ask you as part of the application process to identify whether you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder, or have asylum/refugee status in the U.S.
