Position Overview

This role is responsible for leading Adaptive Biotech's MRD Pharma team including the business development and client data management functions. The VP, MRD Pharmaceuticals is responsible for driving ongoing and new business opportunities with Pharma companies conducting clinical trials in lymphoid malignancies. Adaptive Biotech is a leader in NGS based diagnostics and is actively working with 60 pharma companies across 180 trials using its FDA-cleared clonoSEQ MRD test. The role reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer of Adaptive's MRD business.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Drive delivery of new bookings and revenue from Pharma customers in line with the company's corporate goals

  • Drive prospecting and acquisition of new pharmaceutical/biotechnology customers

  • Lead business development engagements and negotiations

  • Secure clonoSEQ as the preferred partner and 'go-to' platform for MRD testing

  • Work cross-functionally to deliver transactions, execute and manage deal commitments

  • Support business development strategy and initiatives, including new offerings/products

  • Drive existing collaborations forward: work cross-functionally to deliver industry leading customer service, revenue predictability and opportunities to broaden and deepen existing partnerships (new therapeutic assets, new indications, etc.)

  • Supervise the development and management of yearly and quarterly account plans and prospecting plans

  • Work with internal stakeholders to optimize revenue and milestone forecasting and tracking processes and to implement best-in-class CRM tools

  • Lead team of several MRD BD Managers: goal setting, coordination, performance management, etc.

  • Lead client data management team, which is responsible for the delivery of high-quality data, services, and reports to pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers

  • Develop strategies for optimizing people, processes, systems, and culture to accelerate business performance

  • Utilizing your existing network to help the business development team expand Adaptive's partnerships further and make new connections through networking, introductions, and conference attendance

  • Work closely with senior leaders in drug development companies to build partnerships in existing and in new market segments

  • Structure, negotiate, and close significant and complex deals in line with the company's business development goals

  • Translate customer and market insights to product managers and business team leaders to refine product and R&D strategies

  • Structure deals and pricing to achieve near and long-term profitability goals

  • Establish and maintain frequent contact with clients through focused client visits and presentations to ensure high levels of client satisfaction on client issues and needs

  • Contribute to developing and implementing the marketing and sales strategy

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 20+ years of progressive related experience in the biotech or life sciences industry or similar combination of education and experience

  • Strong preference of experience in biopharma or diagnostics business development

  • 10+ year managing and growing teams, developing people with a strong focus on culture

  • Deep understanding of a combination of genomics, therapeutic landscape in Oncology and MRD diagnostics

  • Successful track record of developing and closing value-add collaborations, as well as bringing in repeat business from multiple customers

  • Extensive network across our customer base

  • Ability to tease apart customers' needs and motivations, and can successfully influence them

  • Strong presentation skills,and have a good strategic and analytic skillset

  • Entrepreneurial and self-starter mindset

  • Ability to see the bigger picture and create a cohesive team culture to achieve broad success in addition to individual success

Working Conditions

This position will be field based, may require up to 35% travel from time to time, and a willingness to work according to global hours when needed to support global customers.



Salary Range: $227,300 - $340,900
