The work location for this position may be flexible. Highly qualified candidates may be eligible to work full-time remotely within the US, on-premise at our offices in Champaign, Illinois, or a combination.




Job Summary


The Director of Learning Support is responsible for instructional support management for active courses within the Gies College of Business online educational portfolio. The Director will coordinate with HR and the Operations team regarding hiring needs and efforts and will recruit, manage, supervise, onboard, train, and coordinate course support in the Gies College of Business for online undergraduate, graduate, certificate, non-degree, and non-credit courses and programs as appropriate. The Director will manage three teams (course management, live studio operations, and learning support). The Director will build and manage a learning support team that will coordinate with instructors in handling course-related student concerns as well as the team that will provide course support through graders, teaching assistants, course assistants, etc. The Director will facilitate course debrief conversations to identify opportunities for future course improvements that will enhance the student learning experience.



Duties & Responsibilities




Course Support Management


  • Envision and develop a course support model for teaching in the Gies online portfolio

  • Design and facilitate the process for identifying course support talent pools, retaining talent, and working with the College HR office to hire, manage, and retain staff for the course support model

  • Supervise and manage the assistants that support active courses in the Gies online portfolio

  • Create and manage training processes, resources, and documentation for course support staff

  • Facilitate a positive community for course support staff

  • Coordinate with Online Programs and Content Strategy to understand Instructional Team staffing and Instructional Team teaching support needs in order to predict course support staffing needs in advance and facilitate adjustments in staffing as needed

Instructional Support Management


  • The Learning Support team will serve as primary contact for instructors in handling course-related student concerns including but not limited to academic integrity violations, regrade/extension requests, and grouping issues, and will coordinate with the Student and Academic Success team leadership when appropriate

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Online Programs administration on documenting and sharing best practices to support teaching and learning in the Gies online educational portfolio

  • Facilitate course debrief conversations to identify opportunities for future course improvements in course delivery, assessment, media production, and teaching improvements that will enhance the student learning experience and deliver on expected learning outcomes

Learning Experience Support


  • Collaborate closely with Online Programs Administration and support the Online Programs Student and Academic Success team in communicating within iDegree or other online courses to facilitate student access to services, programs, resources, policies, and procedures to address course-related concerns

  • Monitor student learning experiences with new and current technologies to make recommendations and participate in conversations with the Teaching and Learning team to provide feedback on these technologies

  • Participate in meetings and collect regular reports to inform recommendations and resolve concerns about student learning experiences

  • Collaborate with Gies Data Management team on the analysis of data concerning student learning experiences and outcomes through surveys and ongoing performance feedback


Other Duties


  • Design, implement, and facilitate online workshops for faculty and staff focused on learning experience and learning success

  • Participate in professional development

  • Other duties as assigned




Minimum Qualifications


Education:

Required: Masters degree in Human Resources, Organizational Design, Management, Talent Development, Higher Ed Administration, or a closely related field

Experience:


Required: At least five years of work experience in a human resource, talent development, advising, management, or similar role.


Preferred Qualifications


Education:

Preferred: Doctorate degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Organizational Design, Management, Talent Development, Higher Ed Administration, or a closely related field



Experience:

Preferred: Seven years of work experience in a human resource, talent development, advising, management, or similar role in higher education at a large university. Experience managing in a dispersed team environment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Required: A successful candidate should have:


  • ability to communicate and build relationships

  • ability to manage a team

  • organizational skills to manage workflow, develop and manage schedules, and meet deadlines


Preferred:


  • ability to define processes and apply systems-thinking skills

  • knowledge of higher education




Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/16/2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.
