The Sr. Marketing Manager is a strategic and tactical leader in planning and managing marketing activities for frontlist books and high-profile backlist titles in the business category of the Trade Publishing division. This position will lead the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns for key products and authors. You will have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of trends within Trade publishing and will have experience of managing products and multiple projects. You will need to have proven experience of strategic marketing, with outstanding collaboration and communication skills. The ability to multi-task and work under pressure is essential for this role, as well as a strong customer focus.

The Product Marketing team is a highly collaborative team, working with authors, editors, sales, and channel marketers daily. The ability to innovate and prioritize around the needs and wants of each team is critical. Our ideal candidate is a marketing innovator, an excellent communicator who inspires trust and confidence in internal and external stakeholders, and a seasoned marketing leader capable of growing author brands and handling multiple projects all at different stages in the marketing cycle with confidence and passion.

How you will make an impact:

  • Create, manage, and execute strategic marketing plans for key products, authors, and categories.

  • Develop effective working relationships by collaborating across functional groups (editorial, marketing, sales, academic marketing, global teams, etc.) to get buy-in on marketing plans at all stages from pre-launch to post launch.

  • Communicate frequently on progress of high-profile initiatives, including globally.

  • Manage selected author and other partner relationships, participating in key author meetings, and delivering timely, clear, and concise communication/responses to all inquiries.

  • Advise authors on building and optimizing promotional plans for their books.

  • Oversee social and email marketing strategy.

  • Drive development of content for campaigns, including flyers, social media content, infographics, and email blast copy for consumer facing promotions.

  • Review and provide marketing input on manuscript submissions; participate in editorial discussions regarding direction of new book acquisition.

  • Coordinate marketing efforts with publicist on key campaigns.

  • Manage departmental budget, including invoicing and vendor set up.

  • Identify B2B marketing opportunities and coordinate closely with Corporate and Government Sales team on campaigns.

  • Secure and support cross promotional partnerships with third party brands, companies, and organizations.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years’ marketing experience in book publishing or similar industry.

  • Demonstrated success launching products and services.

  • A high degree of understanding of market conditions and commercial opportunities.

  • Ability to influence your teammates, as well as colleagues, stakeholders, and key executives, through your use of data, logic, and strong communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, alternating rapidly between high-level strategy, mid-level planning, and detailed execution.

  • Strong project management slant, timeline management, and problem-solving abilities.

  • A positive, can-do attitude, strong EQ, and the ability to work well with different types of personalities.

  • Ability to present information in both one-on-one and group situations to authors/customers and coworkers.

  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and organization

  • Passion for diverse books.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital publishing and book marketing landscape.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
