Within The Department of State's Information Resource Management (IRM) Bureau’s Messaging Systems Office (MSO), the Messaging Design (MD) Division and in partnership with the Department’s Center for Analytics, we are looking to hire a cloud and cyber security engineer with an analytical mind and a detailed understanding of engineering and cybersecurity methodologies. This role is expected to have meticulous attention to detail, outstanding problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines.



To ensure success, this engineer must display an excellent understanding of technology infrastructure using Firewalls, VPN, Data Loss Prevention, IDS/IPS, Web-Proxy, and Security Audits. Top candidates will be comfortable working with a variety of technologies, security problems, and troubleshooting of the network.

Clearance: Interim Secret with ability to receive a Top Secret Responsibilities:


  • Support the US Department of States’ Information Resource Management (IRM) team to plan and facilitate network optimization and improvements from Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, and Redundancy focal points.

  • Act as a cloud and technical cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME) to meet current and future security design, and architecture requirements for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS implementations.

  • Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading security measures for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks.

  • Work closely with engineering team members across infrastructure teams and outside vendors to ensure that features and capabilities are delivered on-schedule and operated according to government security guidelines.

  • Troubleshooting security and network problems and respond to all system and/or network related security breaches.

  • Ensuring that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by enabling the appropriate security controls.

  • Provide research support for incoming requests and future requirements.
  • Participating in the change management process.

  • Participate in enterprise projects and advocate security, architecture, and engineering best practices.

  • Develop documentation as in system design, concept of operations and architecture diagrams.

  • Develop cloud security technical roadmaps.

  • Daily administrative tasks, reporting, and communication with the relevant departments in the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 5-8+ years of systems engineering experience

  • 2-3+ years of Azure (or other CSP) experience

  • 2+ years of experience in an Enterprise security or Infrastructure Engineering role

  • Experience working with Government clients, systems, and applications

  • Highly-motivated professional capable of managing demanding workload and competing priorities

  • Self-starter with the ability to gather input from stakeholders and execute independently

  • Demonstrates attention to detail, efficient and disciplined work approach, excellent communication skills with a high level of integrity and leadership

  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and multi-tasking abilities

  • Experience with industry standards, services, and environments including but not limited to: Azure SQL, Azure DevOps, Azure Storage; Microsoft 365, Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server (2016 or later), Active Directory DNS, SSL, Firewalls (Palo Alto), IDE applications, Visual Studios, VS Codes, Scripting Language (PowerShell)

  • Knowledgeable in Zero Trust Architecture

  • Certifications:

  • A+, Network+, MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional)

  • MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Expert)

  • MCAAA (Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate)
