Overview

This position supports the lending team through underwriting, documenting, and structuring credit recommendations for Small Business Administration (SBA) portfolios. Identifies, gathers, and reviews financial information to determine credit grades and appropriate loan structuring. Prepares credit approval memos for recommendations consistent with Bank policies. Assesses and communicates risks within new and renewing credits. Provides service and support for both associates and clients, assisting in client calls and special projects to facilitate lending activities.

Responsibilities
  • Underwriting - Underwrites new and renewal credits according to applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Reviews financial statements, communicates with clients or prospects, and performs analysis to recommend credit grades and appropriate loan structuring. Prepares loan approval forms and credit memo documents to communicate underwriting outcome.
  • Analysis - Sources, compiles, and interprets financial data to support structuring and approval of loans. Reviews appropriate loan and application documentation including appraisals, leases, construction contracts, and other pertinent information. Forms a general business overview of the borrower and utilizes results of analysis to underwrite SBA loans.
  • Loan Servicing - Facilitates ongoing performance of SBA portfolios and management of post-closing exceptions. Assists in loan closings, pre-closing audits, and post-closing disbursements. Partners with management on handling of criticized loans. Updates credits appropriately and continuously for existing clients to ensure loan portfolio credit grades remain accurate.
  • Business Support - Partners with associates and customers to determine needs and structuring of new requests, participating in client and prospect calls as needed. Tracks borrower and guarantor reporting requirements for compliance and covenants. Prepares and maintains current financial statement spreads for each borrower.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Credit Administration, Credit Sales, Underwriting, or Servicing OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Credit Administration, Credit Sales, Underwriting, or Servicing

Additional Qualifications
  • SBA underwriting experience required
  • Experience working with credit deals up to 5 million preferred
  • Knowledge of financial accounting theory and logic, loan structuring, commercial products, and services
