Job Description



Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity? VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform (TCP) is continuing to grow and is now being deployed at multiple customers worldwide, helping lead the service provider’s network transformation/modernization. The WWPS organization is at the forefront of delivery of customer engagements, and we work with the different business units across VMware to ensure customer success. A strong need for customer success is the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) function/service of which the Network Operations Center (NOC) is an integral part.



The Sr. Consultant, Telco role offers an exciting opportunity to solve customer problems by working across multiple technology domains and engage in the latest and greatest technology services being developed at a world class company. The role is critical to ensure the customer’s network operations and reliability and directly impacts the adherence to SLAs.



Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?



You will work on a team of talented VMware consultants responsible for triaging issues related to VMware TCP regarding availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning. VMware TCP is the foundation of customers’ data network, and it must deliver carrier-grade performance, reliability, and integration. This role with require strong analytical capabilities, deep experience with troubleshooting/root cause analysis, good scripting capabilities and Linux administration/k8s expertise. In addition, the role will necessitate that the consultants perform calmly under pressure and that communication with customer/VMware executives is excellent. This team will be the first responders for VMware TCP issues and will be expected to set the bar high for customer service.



The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?



Support a 24x7 Network Operations Center, engage with NOC POD Support and Resolution resources, as required, post initial triage efforts through resolution. Participate in shared on-call schedule [follow-the-sun model]

Troubleshoot issues across the entire application stack and creation and entry of Support Requests, through closure and remediation

Provide incident and problem management to the customer

Provide tier 1 and tier 2 support for customer operations

Perform monitoring of VMware platforms and key interfaces for overall health and providing both proactive and reactive responses based on such monitoring.

Ensuring automated jobs run as scheduled and logs are completed in accordance with established procedures

Participate in Disaster Recovery events and Major Life Cycle Change Events

Manage the platform risk to ensure the security and resiliency of the platform

Maintain system documentation and provide production metrics reporting

Recommend new technologies for compatibility, expandability, ease of use, and supportability

Assist cloud-native network function (CNF) and virtual network function (VNF) vendors in resolving interoperability issues concerning VMware related software.

Provide ongoing knowledge transfer to stakeholders.

Evaluate and recommend automation opportunities, where applicable

Identify sources of production issues

Identify efficiencies and ways to improve processes



What Skills You Need To Succeed (Must have)



5+ years of experience with deployment, integration, testing, support, upgrade and maintenance operations of virtual infrastructure preferably at Telcos.

Experience working with VMware TCP product suite in a real customer environment. You have a good understanding of TCP/IP and networking fundamentals. Strong analytical skills with a data driven approach to solving problems. Experience working with carrier-grade production environments. A bachelor’s in computer science engineering or related fields, or related work experience. Programming (Python and Bash are preferred scripting/shell languages) and automation skills. Troubleshooting and system engineering exposure in Linux production environments. Experience with Linux, Internet Protocols, and Large-Scale Operations. Experience with CI/CD tooling: Jenkins, Spinnaker, GitLab runners, Azure DevOps, etc. Experience with deploying and maintaining monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, ELK stack etc. Great communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and own problem statements end-to-end. Experience working in a customer facing environment especially operations focused



Nice to have Skills:

Certifications: VMware, Cisco, CKA/CKAD, AWS ,GCP, Azure. Experience in writing monitoring and logging Scripts, Dashboards in the tools (Splunk, Catchpoint, AppDynamics, Wavefront, Logzio, Datadog) Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, and document stores such as MongoDB. Experience deploying applications in containers using Docker, helm, and Kubernetes. Strong intuition about system design, robustness, and scalability. Strong Experience with Linux and networking.



Where is this role located?



This role is preferred to be at Denver. Remote work may be considered.
