DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a talented Railroad Public Projects Managerwith a specialization in the coordination, design, review and inspection of public improvement projects adjacent to railroad right-of-way,to help make a difference in our Rail and Transit Practice.
Under limited supervision, the candidate will provide plan review and construction observation services for railroad clients in the northeast.
The ideal candidate is willing to work remotely from New Hampshire, Vermont, or Maine and work closely with our Public Projects Program Manager in our Chicago, IL office.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Pursue, setup, and coordinate Public Projects within the Northeast region with the support of the Public Projects Program Manager and Public Projects Engineers.
  • Estimate effort for new task orders and obtain approval from clients
  • Assist in managing budgets within Railroad Force Account Estimates
  • Build intimate familiarity with railroad public projects manuals and policy
  • Review public project design and contract plans and specifications and distribute to various departments for detailed technical review depending on scope of project
  • Attend on site or virtual meetings with public agency and/or railroad representatives as required
  • Perform final review of construction submittals for conformance with approved contract plans and railroad policies
  • Assign inspectors to public projects in construction, documenting and reporting findings to the client
  • Coordinate public projects with other railroad departments and projects
  • Train and assist others in standard processes for Public Projects
  • Manage the collection, compilation, and analysis of project files
  • Provide detailed weekly and on demand project accounting and status reporting
  • Obtain all required railroad safety certifications and trainings and support safety initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar
  • 7-10 years of demonstrated experience on relevant projects
  • PE license with NCEES record a plus
  • Project experience with Class I Railroads and familiarity with AREMA standards desired
  • Ability to travel to other office and job site locations in the region
  • Basic construction inspection experience desired
  • Experience reviewing construction plans and specifications
  • Experience in servicing multiple projects concurrently
  • Possess client management skills and ability to enhance and develop solid client relationships
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
  • Strong work ethic and integrity

COMPENSATION

The salary range has been determined to be $100,000 and $112,000 for this position.
This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate with consideration for licensure and experience.
