Hallmark offers summer internships for students pursuing degrees in areas such as Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Graphic Design, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Illustration, Communications, Creative Writing, Engineering, Psychology, Statistics, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science and more! Hallmark's internship program is held annually, starting late May and ending in early August, and provides the valuable opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge to meaningful projects in a corporate creative environment. In addition, you will gain exposure to Hallmark leadership, learn more about our products and initiatives, connect with employees and interns from other disciplines, and for hybrid or on-site internships, enjoy what life is like in the Kansas City metro area.


POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Design Intern in the Gift Presentation and Packaged Expressions Studio, you'll have the opportunity to create seasonal and everyday product for gift wrap, stickers, stationery and party. You will work on both large programs, as well as individual stand-alone SKUs. Designers on this team utilize a range of skills including - surface pattern design, illustration, photography, and lettering. For this product category, it's important to have a passion for surface pattern design, strong composition and layout skills. Additionally, understanding the marketplace and having the ability to identify current trends in our product category is critical to the success of our products in the competitive marketplace.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
The following is required to be considered for this role:



  • Currently pursuing a degree in a visual creative field with a graduation date of December 2023 or May/June 2024. You must state your targeted graduation date (month and year) on your resume, or you will not be considered.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign)

  • Experience in graphic design, surface/pattern design, illustration, and/or lettering.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Your resume and portfolio will stand out if you have:



  • Portfolio images that demonstrate strong conceptual/design skills, trend-focused color palettes, excellent aesthetic judgment, and use of type

  • Portfolio images that demonstrate ability to apply design and illustration to multiple formats and products.

  • Self-starter, curious, and willing to learn

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work on and manage multiple projects with a range of complexity and shifting deadlines

  • Collaborative and a strong team player

  • Strategic thinker

  • Flexible work style and ability to move forward without all of the answers.


ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Our 2023 Internship opportunities may be hybrid, on-site, or fully remote, depending on the project, needs of the business, and preferences of the final selected candidate. This internship program dates are May 22-August 11, 2023, with adjustments made for candidates whose school schedules differ. We sincerely appreciate your interest in our program!
