A Senior Project Manager has the authority to run the project on a day-to-day basis and has the primary responsibility to ensure all work products are of high quality, completed within defined time and cost constraints, and coordinate with in and out-of-house team members to ensure all work is consistent. A Senior Project Manager manages key client projects to solicit and develop business and works directly with clients to ensure consulting products and services meet the objectives and needs of our clients.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manages a portfolio of complex projects and company initiatives that span one or multiple lines of business activities. Manages all aspects of projects to ensure the overall program is aligned with, and directly supports, the achievement of strategic business objectives while meeting client expectations.
  • Provides leadership for project teams by motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
  • Oversees multidisciplinary teams of professionals, including but not limited to, architectural, engineering, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, geology, land use, noise, traffic and transportation, recreation, water resources and other environmental topics to develop analysis appropriate for each project. Uses working knowledge and experience of environmental topics to devise feasible measures to mitigate significant environmental impacts.
  • Assumes full project life cycle ownership from initiation to completion of multiple projects. Leads and directs project teams through all aspects of project development and completion. Participates as technical lead on projects. Manages projects to meet regulatory requirements with respect to applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Manages, develops, and monitors compliance with project budgets and schedules; prepares invoices; and participates in accounts receivable management. Manages project scope and changes. Prepares cost estimates and detailed project plans for all phases of the project. Provides status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across company leadership.
  • Reports on project success criteria results, key performance indicators (KPIs), and project deployment and management activities. Sets and continually manages project and program expectations. Monitors, tracks and controls outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables. Identifies the staff and other resources needed to achieve project objectives in planned timeframes and participates in workload planning efforts to ensure project staffing is adequate.
  • Works creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by emphasizing teamwork, innovation and excellence. Demonstrates a functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices and company values and mission.
  • Relies on extensive experience and familiarity with the concepts, practices, and procedures related to planning and environmental analysis to plan and accomplish goals. Serves as a technical resource to other Meridian staff by advising on appropriate approaches for project work.
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Monitors staff performance and participates in performance reviews.
  • Assists partners, principals and other senior staff in the development of proposals, making presentations, and conducting business development activities to assist in maintaining and growing our markets.
  • Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations to various audiences, including project teams (internal and external), and key stakeholders (client, agencies, public).
  • Understands the interdependencies between project and business operations and needs. Exercises independent judgment while regularly advising upper management as needed.
  • Communicates independently with clients, business associates, subconsultants, and public agencies.
  • Represents the firm at meetings, business activities, and other industry functions. Makes presentations at industry and trade meetings regarding innovative projects and new approaches to achieving regulatory and technical needs.

Required Skills
  • Preferable direct experience completing a variety of environmental documentation projects related to urban development and infrastructure projects throughout California.
  • Strong understanding of CEQA and NEPA, as well as the application and understanding of other regulatory agency requirements, such as those for the USFWS, CDFW, CARB, SCAQMD (or other air districts), USACE, SWRCB, cities, counties and special districts and others as appropriate agencies and organizations.
  • Proven working experience in project management including the use of tools such as MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Replicon, SharePoint and others. Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Minimum of 7 years of industry experience.
  • At last three (3) years of direct project management experience encouraged.
