The University of Iowa Libraries seeks to hire a Program Manager for the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio. This position manages the programmatic activities of the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio and facilitates the operational activities of faculty, staff, and graduate student research projects. The Program Manager provides administrative support for the graduate certificate in Public Digital Humanities, co-manages the Studio-Graduate College Summer Fellowship Program, negotiates memoranda of understanding with Studio scholars, and coordinates the staffing and grant writing needs of PIs and Studio staff.




Responsibilities:


  • Manage the programmatic activities of the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio.

  • Facilitate the Studio’s operational activities.

  • Recommend, develop, and assist in implementing strategic planning efforts, and identify ways the Studio’s programming advances the Libraries' strategic plan.

  • Supervise Public Engagement Specialist.

  • May functionally supervise staff, provide direction, and ensure compliance with University standards, and/or supervise student employees, interns, and fellows.

  • Facilitate development activities and explore opportunities for growth.

  • Supervise grant development, including management of proper documentation and oversight of associated staffing and financial obligations, in collaboration with the Libraries finance team.

  • Develop departmental policy and protocol.

  • Facilitate all Studio human resource activities in collaboration with Libraries HR.

  • Actively support the University of Iowa Libraries commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) in the workplace.

  • Provide classroom instruction and public outreach, as needed.

  • Manage projects as assigned, developing work plans and timelines and ensuring that key milestones are met.

  • Analyze all processes for continuous improvement.

  • Participate in professional development and service activities that contribute to the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned.



The Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio collaborates with faculty and students on the digital design, implementation, and circulation of their research. Subscribing to a show more, tell less approach where digital scholarship–particularly the digital humanities–is concerned, the Studio embraces scholarly creativity and encourages interdisciplinary research and multiplatform circulation. In this manner, the Studio helps scholars tailor the presentation and application of their research to a variety of audiences.


Housed in the UI Libraries, the Studio oversees the Iowa Digital Library, Iowa Research Online, DIY History, and faculty and graduate student Digital Editions. Given its position in the Libraries, the Studio can shepherd digital projects from their inception to their eventual archival treatments, creating responsible lifespans for these projects and their attendant data.


In close connection with other campus resources, including Student Instructional Technology Assistants (SITAs), Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning (IDEAL) and the UI Libraries’ Research & Library Instruction department, the Studio can help instructors thread their research projects into university and community curricula.


Required Qualifications:


  • Master’s Degree in education, communications, business, humanities or related field, or equivalent education and experience

  • Three years of post-graduate professional experience

  • Management experience in complex organizational setting

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships in complex organizations with grace, tact, and diplomacy

  • Demonstrated understanding of the of the mission of a research university and the mission and functions of scholarly support units.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in an academic environment, in a workplace setting, and/or in the community

  • Tolerance for ambiguity in workplace operations



Desired Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with digital scholarship theory and practices

  • Familiarity with higher education systems and processes

  • Familiarity with University of Iowa finance and human resource systems

  • Experience with teaching or other instructional experience

  • Experience with grant-writing or budgeting

  • Experience supervising others

The starting salary range for the Program Manager position will be $62,000 - $72,000 based on experience.
