This role is responsible for developing and maintaining development platforms for the Chamberlain myQ program. This includes developing a specialized library for video access on Android platforms. This role will work with other developers, as well as other functions such as Engineering, Product Ownership, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Customer Service to understand and translate product requirements into technical requirements, verify development matches product owner expectations, as well as maintain a high quality code base. A successful incumbent will be a self-starter who is motivated to solve complex engineering challenges in a short period of time and have a proven track record of delivering their projects.



Job Responsibilities:

Work with media technologies such as RSTP, WebRTC, H.264, H.265, HLS, MSE, Opus to build video-based products on the Android platform

Collaborate with product owner, front end, middleware, dev-ops, and firmware functional teams to implement new features

Participate in technical assessment, scoping and management of changes to the code base on new business requirements, product enhancements and other change requests across multiple scrum teams

Analyze requirements, collaborate with architects and other engineers to produce thoughtful software designs of large scope and high complexity

Work using Agile methodologies such as Scrum to develop middleware

Lead and contribute to technical discussions in community of practice, design review, pull request, or other technical meeting forums

Ensure adherence to coding standards and other best practices to create reusable code

Maintain platform specific software knowledge of key software application features, frameworks, and components in myQ middleware and video platform

Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers to increase software capability of the middleware development team

Collaborate with other Chamberlain domain experts, such as infrastructure, database, and front end, as the team develops features and platform enhancements

Work with offshore teams to design and develop features, and burn down technical debt

Stay current on modern technologies and innovations which can further enhance and improve the commercial success of the myQ connectivity solution

Responsible for complying with the security requirements set forth by the Information Security team and the established ISO 27001 Security Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities Document found in the ISMS Document Library

Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams

Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies

Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed



Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

An advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of job related experience

7+ years of relevant job-related experience, as defined in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Experience with Android/Kotlin/Java technology stack, including Android Studio

Experience in creating technical documentation

Experience with dependency injection

Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough understanding of software development and design principles

Ability to lead and work well with others, provide clear direction to multiple development teams across teams and geographies

Understanding of CI/CD tools, frameworks and deployment processes

Ability to debug, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues within an organization

Ability to estimate work, support project plan creation, and report out progress to functional management at a platform level

Exceptional written and spoken communication skills

Ability to travel up to 5% of the time



Preferred Job Requirements:

Experience interfacing with hardware devices

Ability to read and understand iOS/Swift code



This position can be remote or hybrid (local) and will collaborate out of our office in Sacramento, CA. This position may be paid at the annual rate of $109000 to $180,000. Annual rates may exceed this amount based on criteria such as experience, skills, qualifications, or geography.
