Senior Accountant REMOTE - Baltimore MD
- Preparing and entering Home Office transactions into the general ledger on an ongoing basis.
- Create and provide internal financial reporting (GAAP and Management financials) for finance department leadership requests coordinating necessary input by various team members.
- Prepare and distribute monthly fund balance reports.
- Oversee the accounting process for integration of private income data into the G/L and reconciling cumulative fund balances in private income accounts.
- Research reporting variances and discrepancies, communicating and reviewing findings with supervisor.
- Maintain and develop the schedule, system, and records for Property & Casualty insurance policies; responsibilities include the processing of daily and weekly insurance requests and changes, as well as the gathering of data and coordination of communication for insurance renewals.
- Assist in the process of preparing, submitting, and processing insurance claims.
- Prepare accounting journals for upload and posting into the financial system pre-defined processes for journal entries, including automated upload of spreadsheets.
- Where necessary assist in research and answer questions from field staff, both area and affiliate, regarding all aspect of accounting policy or practice.
- Develop procedures and updates to support activity related to job functions. This would include policy and procedure development as required for overall financial operations.
- Prepare statutory filings as required by state and local governments relevant to finance function.
- Preparation of 990 information filing.
- Proactively seek out resolutions to potential audit findings or financial issues.
- Lead creator of business reports, including writing business rules for all reports, coordinating with end users to determine reporting needs, and working with reporting site developers to produce reporting.
- Preparation of Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate information biannually as well as review of rates periodically making recommendations regarding the level of indirect and direct expenditures as needed.
- Review of Corporate Finance balance sheet reconciliations and assist in addressing any issues.
Qualifications:
- Four-year accounting or business degree.
- Associate degree acceptable if there is more than three years of direct work experience.
- 2-5 years of accounting experience.
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Working experience with automated accounting systems and financial report writing systems.
- High level of office software skills particularly Excel; database experience helpful
