UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide behavioral health support and education to care teams and patients/families. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting nurses and the health care teams in the care of patients with behavior health issues including those with disruptive behaviors, and serves as a role model for care providers in the provision of interventions.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Serve as a clinical expert in Behavioral Health, as a visionary and inventive role model. Collaborate with the Northwest Campus BH CNS to ensure that Behavioral Health-related policies and procedures (including Workplace Violence Prevention, Code Gray, Suicide Prevention and Restraint Management) align with regulatory guidelines and national best practices. Provides information, resources and assistance to cultivate staff skills, enhance nursing practice and promote improved patient care delivery.


  • Collaborate with staff regarding assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and/or groups of patients with complex or unique needs, or in using new technologies or best practice guidelines for patients in all phases of care. Maintains a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of care for patients with behavioral health needs.





  • Collaborate with CNSs, CNEs and Nurse Managers as well as Assistant Nurse Managers to lead/promote/maintain an exemplary level of nursing practice within Behavioral Health services to achieve excellent patient outcomes. Support nursing leadership throughout the medical center and in meeting Patient Care Services, Patients are First and UWMC Pillar goals.



  • Collaborate with Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, and Educators to plan, facilitate, and deliver education of workplace violence prevention, restraint use and safety, suicide prevention and psychiatric topics. This includes participation in multiple committees supporting this work.




    REQUIREMENTS


  • Master's degree in Nursing.


  • At least 3 years of nursing experience.


  • Training and experience in inpatient psychiatric services.


  • Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.


  • Exemplary communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with clinical expertise in the care of patients/families experiencing difficulty coping with both acute and chronic health conditions and hospitalization.




    LEGAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Washington State RN license required by start date.

  • One year of leadership experience.


  • Experience in a Magnet-designated academic healthcare organization.


  • Professional Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (or willingness to certify within 3 years of hire).
