The Senior Quality Engineer has to look at designing quality standards, materials, test equipment, and the methods for insuring control of the process and final product.  This position implements the Quality Policy, conducts quality audits, tracks and analyzes data, ensures implementation of corrective/preventative action and continuous improvement efforts to enhance customer value.  In addition to these responsibilities, the position also supervises the daily activities of the laboratory and its personnel.

How You Will Impact Ingevity:

  • Organize and direct the daily activities of the laboratory to ensure that the analysis of product is timely and accurate, and that instrument integrity is maintained
  • Supervise laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results
  • Establishment and execution of laboratory techniques and equipment, development of testing and daily reports
  • Understand the principles of product quality evaluation and control
  • Provide reports and feedback on the standards of the quality of the product and coordinates with area managers, supervisors, and engineers to look for the right plan of action to improve quality control, contain defects, and enhance the reliability and performance of the process
  • Manage quality improvement projects.
  • Develop and justify capital project requests as related to quality control or assurance improvements
  • Lead continuous improvement activities and help drive the organization towards more efficient and effective processes and systems
  • Develop, communicate and track quality standards and expectations to internal employees, external suppliers, and external customers, as required. 
  • Conduct statistical analysis of data, develop conclusions and recommendations for action, and communicate results
  • Develop new methods and processes to improve quality and reduce waste.
  • Ensures product compliance with current specifications and requirements.
  • Lead quality audits (internal or external) and help forge effective corrective actions.
  • Develop measurement systems and ensure effectiveness of the system.
  • Review data and take corrective action or develop preventative measures.
  • Utilize problem solving skills and lead cross functional teams to address quality issues or other gaps in the quality requirements and take corrective/preventative actions, as necessary.  Lead supplier development efforts, as required.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Quality or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years supervising hourly employees in a union environment preferred
  • Good understanding of quality systems and lab experience
  • Computer proficiency with MS: Word, Excel, and Access
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Hands-on experience with SPC/SQC
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of SAP, Proficy, Minitab is a plus
  • Six Sigma training/certification, IATF, and ASQ certifications are also a plus
  • This role is eligible for relocation assistance.

  • Sitting at a desk for 8 hours
  • Standing for 12-16 hours
  • Climbing stairs and ladders
  • Walking for 2-8 hours per day
  • Minor physical lifting and movement as it relates to test equipment and samples

Work Environment:

  • Office setting, outdoors manufacturing plant setting, hazardous chemicals environment
