The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software capability is seeking multiple satellite ground software engineers in Huntington Beach, CA or El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will work with the BR&T Payload Products & Technologies (PP&T) product team focused on the concept, requirements, architecture, design and development of an advanced Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor payloads. The position will involve performing the development of new software capabilities in the areas of Command & Control, Mission Planning & Processing, Mission Management, and other peripheral products used during satellite mission operations. The range of software work statement includes developing software within Linux or windows operating system, perform front or back end development, and deliver different product architectures including but not limited to web services/APIs/microservices, thick client, and/or web applications.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform the definition of software requirements, architectures, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems.
  • Perform code development and integration of complex software components across numerous components and subsystems into a fully functional software system
  • Perform software test procedures and environments, execute the tests and document results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Participate in program engagements and demonstrations with partners and customers on software capability, development, and integration into larger software architectures and environments.
  • Participate the identification, innovation, implementation of new tools and processes to support this work scope.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar technical degree.
  • Experience using team collaboration tools including Git, JIRA, Confluence, Artifactory, etc.
  • Experience with cloud computing and virtualization technologies (Splunk, Vmware) and containerized applications and frameworks (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • 3+ or more years of experience with Spacecraft Command & Control, Mission Planning & Processing, Mission Management, Flight Dynamics or other Operations software tools.
  • 3+ or more years of experience with the software languages C, C , Java, and Shell, Tcl/Tk, Perl, and/or Python.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Experience with software development in an agile environment (e.g. SAFe methodology) as a scrum master or product owner
  • Experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain (Gitlab, Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, etc).
  • Experience developing software on Research & Development programs.
  • 5+ years of experience with Spacecraft Command & Control, Mission Planning & Processing, Mission Management, Flight Dynamics or other Operations software tools.
  • 5+ or more years of experience with the software languages C, C , Java, and Shell, Tcl/Tk, Perl, and/or Python.

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.

Experienced (Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification

  • Experienced (Level 4) $108,000 - $193,000
