This leadership position will shape the future direction of U.S. Bank’s Data Operations team by being both a product-centric and engineering-minded leader.


Specifically, we are searching for someone who brings fresh ideas, demonstrates a unique and informed viewpoint, and enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop software and systems that manage services and applications through automation, deployment, support and monitoring of existing and new services, platforms, and application stacks, and measurement and optimization of service performance.


In this role, you’ll bring your hands-on knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering, Big Data operations and team leadership to a high-performing operations team and will explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push our capabilities forward to solve tomorrow’s problems, not just today’s.


Essential Responsibilities :



  • End-to-end ownership of operations, including incident, change and capacity management.

  • Take responsibility of the software artifacts produced adhering to U.S. Bank standards to ensure minimal impact to the customer experience.

  • Responsible for automating and maintaining cloud infrastructure.

  • Responsible for managing a team of engineers to build a center of excellence around SRE in automating and scaling cloud operations.

  • Establish SLI / SLO / SLAs across Data ecosystem and drive a data driven operations culture

  • Consistently evaluate scalability, reliability and performance of systems / contexts when defining technical release plans

  • Utilizes technical expertise and leadership skills to resolve issues, ensure product goals are met, and serve as a mentor to coach and support junior engineers to continue to raise the engineering bar across the organization

  • Drive both high level and detailed technical designs, conducts technical reviews and define solution requirements and technical implementation approaches

  • Exhibits relentless focus in software reliability engineering standards

  • Embraces emerging technology opportunities and contributes to the best practices in support of the banks technology transformation.

  • Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Reviews tasks critically and ensures they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery. Anticipates and communicates blockers and delays before they require escalation.

  • Collaborate with cross functional partners and stakeholders in influencing technical decisions


Basic Qualifications :



  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent work experience, Master’s degree in CS is preferred

  • Ten years of relevant experience


Preferred Skills / Experience



  • Demonstrated experience managing and growing a team of Site Reliability Engineering

  • Experience driving the culture of SRE utilizing SLI / SLOs, error budgets and automation

  • Experience with incident post-mortem and driving corrective actions to minimize impact

  • Adept with agile software development lifecycle, DevOps principles and strives to drive a culture of continuous integration and delivery

  • Proven ability to manage a geographically distributed team of at least 20 employees

  • Experience managing infrastructure utilizing Terraform

  • A background managing and troubleshooting CI / CD pipelines

  • Experience with configuration tools such as Puppet, Salt, or Ansible

  • Significant experience architecting and implementing solutions in public cloud (Azure, AWS, Google)

  • Exposure and knowledge of microservices, large-scale data lakes, distributed databases, distributed messaging, and real time data pipelines

  • Proficiency in programming and system design principles

  • Excellent communication, presentation, leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Proven collaboration and influencing skills
