Salary Range:    $20.00 - $20.60 Hourly

This position is located in NE Portland. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.



Essential Function



Under close supervision, the Childcare Worker performs a variety of child care related services and activities for the children of clients involved in substance abuse treatment in an outpatient setting. Many of the children have been involved with the Child Welfare System and Foster Care and who may have special needs. Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare supports a Trauma Informed Care environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving mental health services, it is required the Childcare Worker understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.

 



Essential Responsibilities



This position description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, or working conditions associated with the position.  Management reserves the right to modify, add or remove duties as necessary. 




  • Provide quality care for up to 6 children (newborns to age 10) through organization of social, educational and recreational activities.  

  • Organize and maintain a registration log with contact and emergency information.

  • Maintain a daily sign-in log for parents of children seeking childcare services.

  • Provide and/or coordinate room maintenance. Keep supplies safely put away and out of the reach of the children. 

  • Maintain a clean and sterilized childcare area.

  • Consult with primary counselors assigned to the clients as needed with any concerns regarding information children report or demonstrated behavior outside of what would be considered normal child’s play.

  • Interact with children, clients and staff in a professional and respectful manner.

  • Perform all duties of a mandated reporter, which states that a report is required when any person considered to be a mandatory reporter has reasonable cause to believe that any child the mandatory reporter comes in contact with has suffered abuse.

  • Respect and honor client rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.

  • Ensure safety of all children in care at all times.

  • Provide input on all relevant documentation and procedural requirements.




  • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated in the licensing requirements for the facility as well as agency requirements. Attend seminars, training and other educational opportunities in order to develop professional skills and abilities.




  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings.

  • The Childcare Worker is not responsible for changing diapers, but will reach out to parent(s) if changing is needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



 



Qualifications



Education:



High school diploma, GED or equivalent.



Experience:



Work experience working children is preferred. Some work experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is also preferred



Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:




  • Ability to relate well to children and intervene in problem behaviors in an effective manner

  • Knowledge of methods of ensuring the safety of children in the waiting room



Other:



Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment.  CPR/ First Aid certifications are required and must remain current.
