The Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) closes the gap in access to quality cultural experiences and creative expression through the support and promotion of arts, culture and the creative industries; connects Philadelphians to enriching, arts-infused experiences; links local artists and cultural organizations to resources and opportunities; and preserves the City’s public art assets.




Job Description



OACCE seeks a full time Community Engagement Manager who will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance participation and awareness of OACCE’s arts and cultural programs, opportunities, and resources. This role is vital to engage Philadelphia residents, artists, and cultural organizations.


Essential Functions


  • Ensure that Philadelphians and stakeholders are aware and well-informed OACCE’s programs and impact.

  • Manage media relations by serving as the point of contact for all press inquiries and interview requests. Act as liaison for communications officers from both external agencies and internal departments, including the Mayor’s Communications Office.

  • Write all press materials, quotes and speaking points for leadership, and language for ceremonial documents.

  • Responsible for planning press events for OACCE.

  • Lead strategic communications including copy writing and editing for OACCE programs, developing external content like e-newsletters, and creating presentations for community engagement events and meetings.

  • Manage public affairs and policy to garner public and stakeholder support for OACCE’s mission. This includes developing regular and annual reports about OACCE’s impact, drafting long-term planning documents, and creating materials that demonstrate OACCE’s value.

  • Collaborate with the Digital Engagement & Event Specialist to develop and implement an integrated communications plan that maximizes the visibility of OACCE and its programs.

  • Complete other duties as needed.


Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of the Philadelphia arts and culture sector.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Proficiency with marketing technology tools such as Mailchimp, Canva, and WordPress.

  • Has a passion for public engagement, multi-platform storytelling, and demonstrates a knowledge of communications strategies that engage Philadelphians and cultural organizations.

  • Pro-active, self-directed, and show an enthusiasm to take on new projects.

  • Ability to multi-task and monitor multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Experience in translating complex metrics into accessible and engaging reports.

  • Ability to effectively work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.



Qualifications



Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, and writing.


Must be a Philadelphia resident. Must have valid driver’s license. Candidate must pass a background check. Must be able to work a hybrid combination of remote and on-site in City Hall, Room 116.


Position requires a high level of mental concentration and commitment. Position requires some travel to OACCE special events within Philadelphia County.
