The Opportunity


Mechanical Design Engineer


The successful candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles and practical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing practices. The engineer in this position will be required to support a variety of product design and production activities. The individual must be self-motivated with self-directed development goals.


Your Challenges


  • Apply engineering principals for technically sound product design to meet design requirements and engineering methods for orderly and understandable execution of calculations
  • Perform work assignments in a timely and quality manner under the guidance of a lead engineer
  • Act as an effective team member, exhibiting good inter-personal skills (conflict resolution, integrity, honesty)
  • Assist with analytical evaluation of designs -- e.g. structural, thermal, fluid flow, vibration, rotor dynamic
  • Create and revise engineering and manufacturing drawings, specifications, and material requirements
  • Compose quality documentation and written communications including Engineering Memorandums (EMs), engineering calculations of record, technical letters, and customer deliverables
  • General manufacturing and shop support that includes timely and technically correct dispositioning of on-site and off-site Non Conformance Reports (NCRs). Participate in vendor and customer meetings and presentations.
  • Understand customer perspectives and inputs and take appropriate responsive actions including direct customer interaction consisting of both oral and written communications
  • Prepare cost estimates, scopes of work and engineering schedule of high fidelity for the individual job function
  • Develop and demonstrate fundamental project planning skills and understanding of cost and schedule implications
  • Perform work in accordance with procedures and instructions (IDPs, EPs, etc.), CW policies, safety, environmental, and security rules and guidelines


Your Expertise


  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. An MS degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply to real world problems
  • Fundamental understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) practices
  • Minimum of two plus work experience dealing with the manufacture and design of engineered products
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a DOD Security Clearance. Must be a US Citizen


The Following Experience / Credentials Would Be a Plus


  • Experience with the mechanical design and analysis of large complex rotating machinery
  • Commercial nuclear industry experience and/or field experience
  • Familiarity with ASME Code requirements
  • PE License desirable
  • Fundamental knowledge of CAD tools, 3D modeling software, and FEA methods
