UX Design InstructorAs part of the Professional Certificate in User Experience (UX) Design, UC San Diego Extension offers students practical knowledge of UX principles, software, and techniques for analysis. Instructors teaching UX Design should have a comprehensive understanding of the user experience process and be prepared to teach a variety of foundation and intermediate level UX design courses.Please visit our website to see our current course offerings. To ensure that our students receive the background and develop techniques necessary to meet their educational goals, we often add new courses to our portfolio. Taught by qualified professionals, our courses feature practical applications, underlying concepts, and current issues, which can be applied to students’ technical and artistic development. We encourage you to apply if you have an idea for a new course not currently offered and meet the qualifications outlined below.Specific DutiesUse subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to studentsStay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in field of practiceDesign syllabus and curriculum as assignedCommunicate expectations to studentsPrepare and deliver course materials: face-to-face, online, and/or in combinationEvaluate student learning and assign gradesDesign interactive and motivational activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learningUpdate materials periodically, and regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculumRespond to student needs and questionsCreate a high-performance environment in which students of diverse backgrounds are motivated to succeedApply technology and leverage resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum (e.g. use Blackboard or make arrangements for guest speakers)Handle mechanics of position according to deadlines (LOAs, texts, A/V, grade submission, etc.)Communicate with Program Manager and Instructor Services Team on a timely basisEmploy cultural competencies to reach any international students in assigned classesMinimum QualificationsAdvanced degree from an accredited institution required; in exceptional cases an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be acceptedCurrent knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject areaCurrent participation in industry-related professional associationsRecognized leadership or authority on subject matterHighly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and informationHighly effective interpersonal skillsUniversity-level teaching experience (or corporate equivalent) preferredExperience designing curriculum and measuring student performance preferredProficiency in the use of online teaching tools preferredComfort in dealing with international professionals and studentsSkill with adults for whom English is not the first languageSpecial Conditions of EmploymentAs an academic department within UC San Diego, all Extension Program instructors and courses must be formally approved according to the regulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California. Eligibility to teach a course is contingent upon this formal academic approval. Once approved, teaching assignments are "by agreement". The instructor's Letter of Agreement outlines the deliverables for the course, the course schedule, and compensation terms, and is subject to department policies and procedures. UC San Diego Extension makes no commitment to hire an instructor until it has sent and received a signed instructor Letter of Agreement. Should the course section an instructor plans to teach be cancelled for any reason, the instructor agreement, including rights to compensation for future section meetings, is voided.
