Position Specific Description



NextEra Analytics is seeking a qualified software engineer to join our Technical Support team. The engineer in this role will interact with all business units in NextEra Analytics and will work in maintaining existing software products. Qualified candidates will spend most of their time updating and improving software that helps NEA provide innovative forecasting and optimization solutions for the energy industry. Employees in this role are analytical and creative problem solvers with a successful track record of diving into issues, asking questions that lead to solutions, and fixing issues in a timely manner. The candidate should also possess the ability to participate in technical discussions, actively contribute within small project teams, and work with others across the organization to create knowledge sharing articles of different projects and products.



 



Engineers in this role will work closely with the Customer Support team within NextEra Analytics to identify the root cause of the problem. Any issues that result in needing a code change will be passed to the Technical Support team to assess and complete, from debugging and making code changes all the way through to deploying a fix to the production system. The ideal candidate will have software engineering experience with exposure or an understanding of Python and/or Java, as well as the ability to debug and investigate logs within AWS and on-prem servers. A personality that embraces change and is a continuous learner will be set up for success at NextEra Analytics.



 



Job Duties & Responsibilities




  • Works with other NextEra Energy teams and customers to maintain industry-leading technology solutions to complex challenges 

  • Investigates systems and logs to reproduce customer issues and implement solutions

  • Conducts system testing and creates unit tests for new and existing features

  • Writes documentation for technical requirements and system architecture and improves upon existing knowledge base articles

  • Participates in agile ceremonies within the Technical Support team as well as any product teams, including refining product requirements, providing estimates on work, daily standups, and post-sprint reviews and retrospectives

  • Automates and develops quality and operational improvements/solutions

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned



 



Preferred Qualifications




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • Experience being a contributor on a small team of engineers

  • Involvement in system design and architecture of software systems

  • Excellent communication with technical and product colleagues

  • One or more years of recent Python, Java, or Vue/Angular/React experience

  • Familiarity of cloud computing, primarily AWS

  • Exposure to CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code processes


Job Overview

This position writes and tests software to aid in development and support of products.  Individuals in this role work with Technical Leads on software system architecture and module design and typically gains experience acting as the owner of a complete module in the system.  This position participates in required product development process ceremonies.  Employees in this role are responsible for writing and refining technical requirements and technical design documentation.
