Position Summary

Samsung is a world leader in Memory, LCD and System LSI technologies. We are currently looking for exceptional software and hardware talent to join us in multiple remote design centers including Austin, San Jose, San Diego, Bellevue, Boston, Cary and Pasadena. SARC was established in Austin, TX in 2010 to be one of Samsung’s strategic investments in high performance low power ARM based device technology. Presently our GPU design teams are developing a GPU that will be deployed in Samsung mobile products. Our System IP team is working on Coherent Interconnect and Memory Controller architectures.



The Debug and Validation Engineer will be responsible for debug, emulation, and test development for state-of-the-art GPU, CPU, Coherent Interconnect, and Memory Controllers used in smartphones and tablets.

Role and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • GPU Silicon Debug, Design for Debug Architecture, and Diagnostic Development

  • Automated SOC level system test generation for GPU, Coherent Interconnect, and CPU

  • Board level hardware and software bring up of GPU, ARM based SOCs (CPU, Memory Controllers, Chip Interconnect/Fabric)

  • Functional and parametric analysis of SOC and IP within an SOC

  • Debug and root cause determination of improper or inconsistent operation

  • Software tool development or scripting to support the debug and test simplification and automation

  • Leverage debug features to accelerate testing and improve test effectiveness

  • Develop IP level functional validation test plans

  • SOC Emulation - Modify hardware, software, and test bench, run emulation, and analyze SOC behavior

  • Provide debug and testing input for feature improvements to next generation designs


Skills and Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • BSEE, Computer Engineering or comparable with 7+ years' experience or 5+ years of GPU PostSi debug validation experience

  • Experienced with System and board level bring up

  • Experienced with GPU and Microprocessor Debug using Logic Analyzer, Scopes, and other test equipment

  • Experienced using debugger such as Lauterbach to debug software/SOC

  • Familiar with performance and power measurement techniques

  • Familiar with scanchain, array dump, HW debug techniques

  • Familiar with emulator signal extraction from waveform techniques

  • Familiar with IPXACT design documents and parser software development

  • GPU architectural knowledge and development experience

  • Familiarity with GPU APIs (OGL, OGLes, Vulkan) and GPU SW stacks

  • Experienced with C/C++/Object Oriented programming, Python, Shell Scripting

  • Familiar with GPU and Microprocessor Product and Test engineering

  • Linux and Android Kernel programming

  • BIOS and Firmware programming

  • Verilog, UVM experience

  • Experienced in Driving debug effort across design, verification and software organization
