Traffic Operations Engineer

ATCS is seeking a Mid-level or Senior Traffic Operations Engineer to join our team. This person will ideally be located in our Richmond, VA office location but we may consider our Newport News or Blacksburg offices as well. Experience with projects and clients in ATCS markets is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apply broad knowledge of leading-edge transportation engineering principles and techniques to improve the efficiency, reliability, resilience and safety of transportation systems
• Analyze traffic capacity and safety data and document findings in technical memos and project reports
• Complete safety analysis using HSM techniques
• Utilize Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, HSM, ISATe, Cube and additional traffic operations and safety software to determine traffic capacity impacts
• Manage traffic capacity and safety analysis tasks
• Train junior staff in traffic operations and safety analysis
  

Requirements

• Bachelor s degree in a civil engineering or relevant field required
• PE in traffic engineering is required
• 5-10+ years or more of relevant experience
• Understanding of traffic signal operations and design, and, efficiently lead tasks involving transportation simulation (using SYNCHRO/SIMTRAFFIC, SIDRA, VISSIM or related software) and signal optimization plans to improve transportation system performance
• Ability to complete assignments with high quality, on time, and within budget
• Must have self-initiative to solve problems and to keep up to date on the latest innovations in traffic engineering
• Ability to seamlessly juggle between competing projects and priorities
  

Additional Requirements

• ITS Technology experience is a plus
• GIS experience is a plus
• Demonstrated capabilities with Microstation and AutoCAD graphic packages preferred
• Experience in multiple types off traffic studies, development of microsimulation networks and analysis of transportation data sets desired
