As a Senior Engineer for the City, you will be reviewing engineering items related to development projects including preliminary plans, site plans, final plats, public infrastructure construction plans, traffic impact analysis, and right-of-way permits.


Essential duties and responsibilities include:



  • Assists the Engineering Manager with updates to ordinances, changes in the Unified Development Code as needed, and updates to the Engineering Design Manual and construction Standards as needed.

  • Review preliminary plans, site plans, final plats, public infrastructure construction plans, traffic impact analysis, floodplain and drainage reports, engineering reports, and right-of-way permits.

  • Prepare technical documents necessary to support ordinance requests to the City Council.

  • Coordinate with other City departments including but not limited to Development Services and Public Works on all projects that will affect these departments.

  • Assist the Engineering Manager with reports, a delegation of projects, and with City Council/Planning and Zoning meetings/agendas including internal department meetings.

  • Provides support with city inspectors for any field related/job site inspection and issues.

  • Works with an Environmental Specialist on the City of Pflugerville's MS4 permit, including compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Assist in negotiating development agreements and contracts as authorized or assigned.

  • Represent the City on various local and regional utility-related work groups and interface with developers, state, county, or municipal representatives, or other city staff members and officials. Report results, follow up on commitments, and make decisions as authorized.

  • Interpret, amend, or update codes and standards as assigned; remain current regarding developing trends and changes in federal, state, and local regulatory practices.

  • Train department staff as requested by Engineering Manager; may oversee the work of and train departmental personnel in project management, technical engineering reviews, and other related tasks.

  • Attend and make presentations to City Council and Planning and Zoning Committee meetings, as required; interface with other City and community organizations, as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skill Requirements:


Formal Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and/or related field.


Relatable Work Experience: 6 years of experience as a professional engineer performing work consistent with the essential functions of this position, preferably within a municipal or county government and with an emphasis on Development Service and/or Utility projects.


Training (Licenses and Certifications): Professional Engineering Registration by the State of Texas or ability to gain registration in Texas within 6 months of employment; Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.


Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Longevity pay of $8 per month begins with the first anniversary and will be paid on a separate paycheck in December of each year.

  • Retirement plan includes a 7% contribution of an employee's gross salary to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a City contribution match of 2 to 1 (14%) at retirement.

  • Retirement eligibility requires 5 years of service at age 60 or 20 years of service at any age.

  • Employees also have an additional retirement fund option to participate in a 457 plan.

  • Long-Term Disability is employer-paid and covers 60% of the employee's salary up to $7,500.

  • Military leave provides up to 15 days of paid leave per fiscal year for eligible employees.

  • Education reimbursement assistance up to $2,000 per fiscal year.

  • Employer-paid basic term life insurance policy two (2) times an employee's base salary, up to $325,000 maximum.

  • 40 paid service hours are available to volunteer within our community.

  • Up to 160 hours of paid parental leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee's child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care, or other legal placement to care for and bond with the child.
