About Our Impact

Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment that enables young women from diverse backgrounds to achieve academic success in a college preparatory program and to become leaders in their communities and professions.

Hawthorn is the first all-girls public school in Missouri, and is currently the only school of its kind in the St. Louis region.  Hawthorn is a college preparatory middle and high school with an emphasis on science, technology engineering, and math. Sponsored by Washington University, the school opened in  2015 in North St. Louis. Hawthorn provides a high quality education to young women residing in the city of St. Louis.

Hawthorn Foundation and Hawthorn School are united in a common purpose of creating educational opportunities for young women. Hawthorn Leadership School Foundation performs the development function of the school, securing resources to support the school’s success and engaging the St. Louis community in the mission and work of the school.

As a charter public school, Hawthorn relies on public funding for the majority of its revenue, but it is the investment of the philanthropic community that enables us to meet the operational and capital needs necessary to provide the high-quality educational experience our students deserve and to ensure the school’s sustainability.
