Principal Software Engineer/Cloud Architect - remote

Location Details:

At GoDaddy the future of work looks different for each team. Some teams work in the office full-time; others have a hybrid arrangement (they work remotely some days and in the office some days) and some work entirely remotely.   

This is a remote position, so you'll be working remotely from your home. Once we can safely travel, you may occasionally visit a GoDaddy office to meet with your team for events or off-sites.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Alaska, Mississippi, North Dakota, or the Virgin Islands.

The Cloud Platform team is a group of experienced and motivated technologists who strike a unique balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills to grow new platform services at scale while partnering with teams across the company.

This team helps drive core principles of defining and upholding strong architecture design principles, instilling security best practices, and delivering novel ideas as cloud technologies continue to evolve by designing and delivering backend platforms that drive the company to adopt the cloud at scale.

What you'll get to do...

• Be seen as a thought leader and subject matter expert for the cloud with your up-to-date knowledge on various cloud services and how they intertwine to deliver robust solutions.

• Partner with teams and engineers to enable them to work smarter, faster & more securely every day, through adoption of best-in-class technology standards, forward looking architecture & design patterns, and time-tested engineering processes & methodologies.
• Through your partnerships across the company, you will design and deliver flexible and resilient architectures that address unique challenges and accelerate the design, delivery, and adoption of new services.
• Proactively build, lead & sponsor cloud architecture forums that enable close partnerships between business units and engineering tech groups to develop, govern and continuously improve a comprehensive and simplified technology stack.
• Provide technical guidance to all levels within GoDaddy including tech leadership.
• Continuously evaluate emerging industry trends to advise technology investments, implementation standards, patterns & practices and sunsetting of tooling. Stay ahead of industry developments and be able to proactively interpret how these impact platform capabilities and present new opportunities.

Your experience should include

• 10+ years as a Cloud/Software Architect (cloud, data, platform etc.) with hands-on experience in multiple areas such as compute, databases, security, networking, high availability, machine learning and operational excellence of production systems.
• Excellent skills to champion teamwork, trust and partnership. Amazing ability to align divergent ideas to a common solution focused on business value & long-term benefits.
• Personal characteristics include a natural intellectual curiosity. You thrive in fast-paced environments, accompanied by agile engineering practices. Delivering business value without compromising quality is in your DNA.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and the ability to generate detailed architecture diagrams

• Facilitate the design of efficient and secure cloud architectures with an understanding of both business and technical requirements. Ability to maintain balance between technology, business value and execution efficiency.
• Self-motivated individual with a proven track record of consistently delivering results in software/technology
• Strong hands-on coding skills preferably with Python, Java, etc.
• Professional level Cloud/Solutions Architect certification (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)

You might also have

• Solid understanding of Data Quality, Governance, Lineage, Metadata Management, semantic data store, Analytics, Data Ingestion/Acquisition/Prep technologies
• Ability to lead and manage a team of engineers
• Master's degree in a STEM field or equivalent practical experience
