HOW YOU WILL DO ITPurpose Statement:
The Space Technology Manager - Senior will be a technical leader in the Plexus team, who will drive to develop business and execute industry-leading Space based programs for global customers. In this role, the Technology Manager will be an integral member of the Engineering and Aerospace & Defense Sector Management teams, work with Plexus management, business development, and product development engineering to achieve significant gains in Space based business and high levels of customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will build on an existing strong technical foundation and customer development expertise in pursuit of growing and executing engineering business in the A/D sector. The Space Technology Manager - Senior will be a subject matter expert and integral member of the product development, business development and market sector teams. The Space Technology Manager - Senior will directly impact the execution of product development by enhancing the engineering solutions we deliver to our customers, while driving business development activities for key accounts and customers. Additionally, the Space Technology Manager - Senior will help drive engineering capability enhancements by identifying key capability needs and through the selection and engagement of specialty service partners.

Key Job Accountabilities:
  • Subject Matter Expertise - Serve as a technology, applications, and product development subject matter expert with responsibilities for directly interfacing with external and internal teams.
  • Technical Leadership - Guide customer concept and technology selection along with development, and aid Plexus' product development and manufacturing teams to comprehensively understand and effectively respond to clients' needs. Monitor, understand, and effectively communicate market specific needs and trends.
  • Customer Engagement - Foster a trusted advisor culture and relationships with key customers to facilitate on-going flow of information concerning current and new product needs, product development initiatives, and market conditions that impact product development.
  • Business Strategy Development and Market Understanding - Contribute to the definition of the strategy for the business, including internal initiatives and external activities focusing on both technology and market sector specific elements.
  • Business Development - Supports the business development team in identifying, pursuing, and winning new business; assists in developing repeat business with previous and/or current customers. Guide internal teams in the creation of compelling and customer-aligned project proposals.
  • Partner Development and Management - Identify, select, engage, and manage external sub-system or key technology specialty product development partners when a necessary component of the Plexus solution to meet client needs.

Education/Experience Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is an market sector specific or related engineering field is required; a Master's or PhD degree is preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of applicable industry experience, serving in an engineering leadership role on space flight projects from requirements development, through architecture, detailed design/analysis (WCCA, thermal, structural), parts selection/procurement, and verification.
  • Expertise in space avionics development and analysis, including the ability to perform evaluations of SoWs, requirements, standards, architectures and designs to identify risks, mitigations, and areas for improvement regarding performance, reliability, quality, cost and schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience in high reliability electronics hardware development, procurement, production and/or test, inclusive of working with radiation tolerant requirements
  • Experience evaluating and selecting EEE parts for use in space applications per EEE-INST-002 and MIL-HDBK-217. Experience with evaluating COTS components for use in the space environment.
  • Experience with developing plans, procedures, and executing testing to MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
  • Experience with business development, working directly with customers to understand needs/wants and provide solutions that meet both business and technical needs. Identifying and communicating project and technical risks and mitigations for those risks.
  • Experience with project management, creating and delivering proposals (inclusive of cost and schedule estimates) for new engineering opportuni.
