About This Role

The Sales Manager II manages and/or develops business in an assigned territory and communicates information pertinent to sales progress with the sales team and next-level managers. Focus may include distribution, specification, contractor, government agency, training, and education. Analyzes and develops essential sales strategies and grows key client relationships.

We are considering candidates who either reside in the Fort Myers/Sarasota area to cover Southwestern FL territory, OR the Orlando area to cover Central FL territory.

Essential Functions

  • Maximizes sales through specification, distributors, contractors, and developers by calling on key clients within customer base. Develops relationships, monitors major projects, and takes action to increase product exposure and success.

  • Contacts distributor sales and operations and/or specification personnel, as well as other irrigation professionals on a regular basis. Creates a demand for products at these levels to assist distribution with sales goals.

  • Executes customer training programs, trade shows, promotional events, and maintains Hunter CRM software (i.e. Salesforce) in assigned territory.

  • Performs field service and support as required. May administer warranty policies and procedures in line with company policy.

  • Recommends customer changes as necessary and informs management of events, territory occurrences, and other pertinent information. Alerts management to any significant changes impacting the overall health of a customer’s business environment.

  • Proposes individual budget requirements. Manages expenditures within budget, saving money whenever possible, and seeking approval for items or events outside of approved budget. Submits timely expense reimbursement requests in line with company policy.

  • Assists in collecting and provides market data for forecasts and reporting, which can encompass regional, competitive, and contractor pricing, as well as area programs (i.e. home builder) as required. May administer warranty policies and procedures in line with company policy.

  • Creates and implements structured business proposals. Analyzes market dynamics utilizing Hunter Preferred and lead generation services and communicates findings to pertinent teams and individuals. Informs management of customer trends.

  • Grows key customer relationships, understands their needs, identifies opportunities, and develops solutions without compromising company profits and market parity.

  • Develops and ensures execution of customer training programs and promotional events with post event follow-up to measure and report promotional ROI. Works in conjunction with field personnel to plan and implement customer-specific sales activities, promoting a team atmosphere for meeting joint objectives.

  • Travels with sales and internal team for strength in market awareness and supports team efforts to achieve customer objectives.


Education/Training Required or Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or landscape architecture preferred.


Experience Required or Preferred

  • Minimum of ten years equivalent industry experience preferred (within sales, installation, or a technical discipline).


What You Bring

  • Knowledge of selling, pricing, marketing, and distribution models within the industry. Effective selling and presentation skills (including yearly distributor program presentations), with the demonstrated ability to attain sales goals, through annual marketing plans and ongoing goal management. Ability to explain and sell the features and benefits of all Hunter products, and to conduct associated training and educational programs. Requires strong commitment to customer service.

  • Technical knowledge of company and competitor products. Ability to perform field service, troubleshoot systems, and recommend solutions, as well as demonstrate side by side product comparisons.

  • Knowledge of finance and budgeting processes. Ability to prepare budgets and manage expenses within budget.

  • Ability to establish and maintain highly effective internal and external working relationships and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and to provide a high level of customer service and support.

  • Ability to travel extensively, live in a strategic location within the territory, and work flexible hours.

  • Basic computer skills with ability to use Windows programs and to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and database management on a personal computer. Ability to use and explain Hunter Industries’ software solutions.

  • Valid driver's license and driving record sufficient to meet requirements to be insured by company. Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.

  • Product appropriate advanced level technical expertise and certifications preferred.

  • Fluency in other languages commonly spoken within the region preferred. Knowledge of regional business and cultural practices preferred.

  • Advanced coursework in business management, project management, IT skills or another related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of consultative selling techniques, distribution channels, specification process, business management and marketing techniques preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit to use the computer and to perform paperwork activities. Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper-level work area.

  • Intermittently walking and standing to move about and to perform work within the office, customer locations and field sites. Requires the ability to walk on uneven terrain at field sites and stand for multiple hours.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds to assist in set-ups and take-downs at trade shows.

  • Ability to work in a variety of positions (bending, kneeling, crouching, standing) to perform set-ups and take-downs at trade shows, product change-outs and irrigation system/product troubleshooting.

  • Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to set-up and take-down displays at trade shows.

  • Finger dexterity sufficient to use a computer and to complete paperwork activities.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to use a computer and to complete paperwork activities.

  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.


Work Environment

  • Various locations with varying temperatures, floor surfaces and exposure to seasonal elements.
