Boeing Phantom Works is seeking a Systems Engineer to develop Orbital Analysis and Concept of Operation studies for space applications in the Puget Sound area in support of multiple programs. The position provides an opportunity to work with an experienced, interdisciplinary team to develop unique systems to meet challenging requirements on dynamic development programs.

We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. We are involved in rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

This is a union represented position.

Position Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Systems Engineering (focusing on operational concepts and use cases), as well as Design Teams (propulsion, payload, and vehicle design teams).


Evaluate orbit types, determine orbit related mission requirements, assess applicability of specialized orbits, and evaluate system solutions to meet customer needs.


Assess launch, retrieval, and disposal scenarios for space systems.


Develop new and modify existing modeling and simulation tools to be integrated in to a large simulation suite using MATLAB, STK, AFSIM or other simulation tool.


Utilize new and current tools to conduct statistically-based analysis.


Develop data-based observations and recommendations that will be presented to senior leadership.


Work with customers, Boeing leadership, and software & systems engineers to translate high level customer requirements into specific work packages and detailed hardware & software requirements.


Support new business pursuits including white papers and proposals.



This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry AND 2 or more years’ of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of technical education and experience


Experience using models or simulation for analysis.



This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Top Secret Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. (An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance Post Start is required).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Active Top Secret clearance


Working knowledge of model based systems engineering concepts and practices (e.g. SysML, Cameo)


Experience working in space domain or with space related topics.


Experience operating space craft


Knowledge of basic astronomy, photometry, estimation theory, development of parallel code, and orbital mechanics.


2 years or more of experience or knowledge of mission level analysis tools, such as STK or other simulation tools.



Typical Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
