Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Level 5 & 6) to support the team in Seal Beach, CA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, demonstration, delivery, and support of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Senior Systems Engineer will be a part of an impactful team that are immersed in innovative development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead proprietary programs being performed for U.S. government customers responsible for national security missions in both command and control and mission processing domains. This position will encompass activities across the systems engineering spectrum in design, build, deployment, operations, and maintenance for a wide variety of critically important platforms and systems for commercial and government customers in an Agile Model-Based Systems Engineering and Software Development paradigm. During initial development, this role will lead the development of vital requirements, concept and verification development, transitioning to integration and test planning, as well as establishing and maturing models and equations and algorithms to support to implementation of the operational software. As development progresses, the focus will shift toward integration, test and verification execution to establish product readiness for off-site operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify sophisticated lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develop concepts of operations, models and equations, and algorithms for command and control and mission processing applications
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, develop and implement a technical performance metrics program, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Actively participate in integration and test activities for our products .
  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, and opportunity management processes.
Work Authorization:

This position requires an active/current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with CI Polygraph adjudicated. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
Level 5
  • 5 years or more of experience writing test cases.
  • 5 years or more of experience developing system test plans and procedures.
  • 5 years or more of experience with decomposing and allocating requirements.
  • 5 years or more of experience using DOORS, requirement verification methods and artifacts.
Level 6
  • 10 years or more of experience writing test cases.
  • 10 years or more of experience developing system test plans and procedures.
  • 10 years or more of experience with decomposing and allocating requirements.
  • 10 years or more of experience using DOORS, requirement verification methods and artifacts.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5 years or more of experience developing Matlab models or operational software development in a higher order language in a Cloud-based software environment.
  • 3 years or more of experience demonstrating leadership in Mission computer or Payload.
  • 3 years or more of experience collaborating with customers by preparing and giving program status briefs.
  • 3 years or more of experience performing model-based system verification.
  • Experience with model based systems engineering and agile software development processes and methods.
  • Experience in development of C2 and Mission Processing software systems.
  • Experience developing and managing strong relationships with partners (internal & external).
  • Experience interfacing with senior leadership by preparing and giving senior level briefs.
  • Experience interfacing with customers by preparing and giving program status briefs.
  • Experience demonstrating leadership in Mission computer or Payload domain knowledge.
Typical Education/Experience:

Level 5

Bachelor's degree typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 6

Bachelor's degree and typically 20 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 18 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 15 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

California summary pay range (Level 5): Min: $157,250 - Max: $212,750

California summary pay range (Level 6): Min: $186,150 - Max: $251,850
