JOB SUMMARY:

(This position can be located in Jeffersonville or Mt. Vernon, Indiana.)

This is a forward-facing position that represents, advocates, and carries out organizational objectives and interests. Position focuses on southern ports (Mt. Vernon and Jeffersonville), inland river system, and regional freight transportation and logistical markets. Direct and active engagement with port customers, port operators, community, regulatory, industry stakeholders and other market participants.


Steward of port commercial and operating agreements with primary oversight of performance, key performance indicators, accountability, and compliance. Responsible for driving economic development and opportunities to grow port business and revenue. Develop strategic operations plan delivering best in class services, operations, practices, and standards. Steward of port operations and activities, safeguarding port impacts, and utilizing port assets to their highest and best use.


This position works cross-functionally in collaboration with multiple disciplines across the organization. Works as part of team environment requiring engagement, communication, and interaction within organizational teams. Must have self-initiative, social and problem-solving aptitude to work with a vast variety of stakeholders


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires a bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of commercial management experience in freight transportation, manufacturing, agriculture and marketing or sales. Ability to successfully operate in a collaborative team environment. A proven record of success in building customer relationships while executing organizational goals. Strong knowledge of road, rail and inland waterways shipping highly desirable.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as the direct, in-person contact for commercial, community and operational matters at the ports. First line of organizational contact.


Aligns port operations and commercial interests with organization's statutory mission, powers, goals, and objectives as communicated by and through COO and CEO.


Resets and grows relationships with port community, port customers, and port operators. Establishes a social license with key stakeholders.


Markets port assets, services, and capabilities securing new port opportunities, businesses, and customers with the aim of developing new lines of (scalable) business. Creates strategic initiatives to drive sustainable port and revenue growth.


In collaboration with organization's revenue business team, defines, develops, and implements strategies for managing effective business relationships with current and potential port businesses and customers to ensure business/customer satisfaction and to expand business/customer opportunities. Finds, generates, and follows through on commercial leads for development at the ports.


Negotiates and documents commercial and operation deal terms for review and approval by COO and CEO, and after approval, finalizes agreements/transactions in collaboration with Legal.


Serves as steward of port operations and services, including rail, stevedoring, warehousing, trucking, stormwater, fiber, and other future initiatives such as renewable energy and environmental sustainability.


Manages and monitors commercial and operating agreements, including operational and financial performance., tracking costs, expenses, revenue, and P/L expectations.


Manages, monitors, and tracks port cargo activity to financial budget. Develops, tracks, analyzes and reports on other commercial and operation key performance indicators or data points.


Secures and enforces compliance with port governance documents, such as leases, operating agreement, licenses, declarations, easements, tariffs, port rules, policies, and procedures as well as best-in-class operations, practices, and standards. Actively works to establish social license to operate among port businesses, customers, and operators.


Oversees and enforces compliance with safety, health, and environmental protections, rules, regulations, and standards.


Provides input into organizational budgeting, including forecasts on industry markets, cargo activity, port revenue, costs, and expenses.


As part of planning, provides input into CAPEX projects and grant opportunities focused for strategic port capital improvements supporting growth of port operations, assets, cargo movements, and security and reliability of the same.


Other duties as assigned by COO.
