JOB SUMMARY: (This job can work remotely from the following States - GA, WA, FL, TN and TX)

At Houston Methodist, the Enterprise Architect position is responsible for the creation, maintenance and management of Information Technology (IT) architecture models and their lower level components. This position interprets, uses and applies information contained within Information Technology (IT) architecture to inform a range of business improvement activities, particularly those involved in the design, development, enhancement and maintenance of IT support systems. The Enterprise Architect ensures that the overall IT architecture is maintained in a coherent and consistent manner and that appropriate considerations are made for its security and quality. The primary responsibility of the Enterprise Architect is to utilize strategic thinking to ensure that the respective business, application, data and technology perspectives are in line with the Houston Methodist technology and governance strategies, policies and standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for cloud end-to-end architecture, including AWS, AZURE and future providers, networking, provisioning, and management
  • Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems helping the company use the cloud efficiently
  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services
  • Provide cloud brokerage and governance. Offer consultative capabilities to business stakeholders seeking the best cloud solutions for their business needs.
  • Work collaboratively with cloud computing stakeholders across the organization. 

Required Skills

  • Experience with AWS, AZURE and VMWare enterprise implementations
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
  • Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture
  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies
  • Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems
  • Experience working in a research or healthcare environment preferred

  1. Serves as a strategic advisor to IT leadership and leadership across the organization on information integration strategies including the resolution of inter-program and inter-project issues. (EF)
  2. Partners with business units and system program leadership to understand business activities and business drivers, business requirements, solutions strategies and alternatives. (EF)
  3. Serves as a role model and mentors peers as needed. Recommends opportunities for improvement of department score for turnover/retention/employee engagement. (EF)

SERVICE -20%

  1. Provides architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, other Systems Architects and appropriate stakeholders. (EF)
  2. Develops and manages an infrastructure capacity plan. (EF)
  3. Designs, develops, and oversees implementation of end-to-end integrated systems. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY -25%

  1. Documents and develops in-depth knowledge of company's existing IT architecture/infrastructure, and technology portfolio. (EF)
  2. Develops, documents, communicates, and enforces a technology standards policy. (EF)
  3. Develops and executes test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Reports findings to IT executive leadership and makes recommendations for improvement. (EF)

FINANCE -15%

  1. Develops, documents, makes recommendations, and communicates plans for investing in IT infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities. (EF)
  2. Creates business cases to make recommendations regarding build versus buy strategies for updates and changes to the development of infrastructure, applications and programs. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION -15%

  1. Maintains in-depth knowledge of company's strategic business plans. (EF)
  2. Conducts research on emerging technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility. (EF)
  3. Seeks opportunities to identify self-developmental needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

o Bachelor's degree required. In lieu of bachelor's degree, an additional four years' experience in addition to the minimum experience required below.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

o Ten years of IT related experience to include five years' experience in an IT people management, senior level engineer, analyst, consultant, or solution architect role and two years healthcare experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

o At least one high level industry certification such as:

o Cisco Certified Architect (CCA),

o Cisco Certified Engineer (CCIE),

o Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA),

o Project Management Professional (PMP)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

o Extensive experience with developing strategic network infrastructure plans.

o Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.

o Hands-on extensive experience with hardware and software from 2 or more networking vendors (Cisco, Extreme Networks, Bradford, Juniper, Foundry, and Nortel) is strongly preferred.

o Proven experience in network design and infrastructure systems.

o Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices.

o Solid grounding in core infrastructure technologies such as: VMWare, Storage platforms, Citrix, VDI, Cloud technologies, etc.

o Exceptional strategic thinking skills and ability to identify and interpret medium and long-term industry trends and apply to current and future organizational needs.

o Proven project planning and management experience.

o Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

o Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

o Exceptional understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

o Ability to manage competing demands, accept criticism and constructive feedback, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintain a positive work style.
