ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of an assigned supervisor. Supervises and coordinates the work of subordinate personnel to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of wastewater pumps and controls used in Sewage Lift Station/Flood Control Stations through the timely and proper maintenance and adjustment of machinery and equipment; provides training, work direction, and evaluation of work performance; evaluates work demands and makes daily assignments; supervises and assists in the maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies; inspects stations for malfunctions and needed repairs; develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for equipment; supervises the maintenance of records of all repairs and maintenance work; interprets and ensures adherence to personnel policies and contract memorandums; takes disciplinary action according to established practices; and confers with workers' representative to resolve grievances.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned from time to time.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to inspect work sites which involves climbing ladders, stooping, and bending. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, management, public, and health and environmental representatives.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outdoors and in lift station/flood control station environment including exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and noise. Requires the ability to operate an automobile to drive to lift station/flood control station sites throughout the City.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate and three (3) years experience in the maintenance/repair of machinery and equipment used in Sewage Lift Stations/Flood Control Stations, including centrifugal pumps of all sizes and types, hydraulic pump units, etc; or any combination of training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license. One (1) year of the three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County withing six (6) months from the date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
