About This Role:




The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a temporary, part-time Research Assistant. The person in the position will conduct multiple aspects of serum neutralization testing for rabies antibody serology (FAVN) through sample preparation, assay performance, microscopy, result interpretation, data entry, and verification of results. This position also provides assistance for clients on international travel of pets.


Duties/Responsibilities



  • Rabies Serological Assays FAVN: Includes sample preparation, serum dilutions, virus growth and dilution, and microscopic reading of plates with calculation of results. Data entry of test submissions, test results, and quality control tracking and report generation.

  • Identify and provide appropriate guidance to meet customers' rabies serology and diagnostic needs including problems with international travel of pets. Provide assistance with clients concerning rabies diagnostic issues. Research country-specific requirements for international travel of animals and relates health information and update the website with other documents.

  • Perform quality assessment and quality control documentation needed for the Rabies Lab. Perform QA/QC documentation needed for the Rabies Laboratory to stay in compliance with regulations. All other duties as assigned which include but are not limited to: cross training on additional rabies assays, maintaining cell lines, representing the lab at technical meetings and general housekeeping.

What You'll Need to Succeed:




Minimum Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree in biology or related study including health communications.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Two or more years of experience in a health-related field or another field where rigorous QA practices occur and experience with fluorescence microscopy.

  • Competent to highly competent computer skills including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and data entry, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills are preferred.

  • Previous experience in preparation and review of regulatory veterinary documents related to pet transport/travel.
